Histon Football Club (FC) have has raised an incredible £1,104.94 to support people via Arthur Rank Hospice Charity with an ongoing partnership with the Charity.

Thanks to the generosity of one of Histon FC’s existing sponsors, who has chosen to remain anonymous, advertising space has been funded on the roof of the dugouts, along with matchday sponsorships for both the current and 2025/26 seasons.

On Saturday 5 April 2025, Arthur Rank Hospice Charity joined Histon FC for their home fixture against G.N.G. Oadby Town at Bridge Road Stadium. The Charity’s staff and volunteers were warmly welcomed with complimentary match tickets, and there was a great atmosphere with 198 attendees on the day.

Guests included family members of a patient who had received care from the Charity. The family was treated to refreshments, a special pitch-side photo opportunity with the team and were invited to watch the match from the Board Room. This lovely touch from Histon FC made the day even more memorable more the family.

The matchday was full of joy and fun, with mascots Arthur Bear and Histon Hound making appearances and even taking part in a penalty shootout against the youth team at half-time. The youth team won, of course! The main event didn’t disappoint either, as Histon FC secured a fantastic 3–1 victory. Thanks to our wonderful volunteer bakers, a variety of delicious cakes were sold on the day, and additional donations were collected at the gates – all contributing to the fundraising total.

Corporate support on the dug outs

The fundraising didn’t stop there. On 13 April, the Charity were also present at the County Cup Finals double header. The first match was the Sunday Challenge Cup Final between Coton Men’s Senior Sunday vs. Romsey Rangers 1st Sunday.

The second match was the Veterans Cup Final between Outwell Swifts Vets vs. Soham Town Rangers Vets. Our team sold some amazing cakes, again baked by our incredible volunteers, and our handmade Easter chicks to attendees, while raising awareness of the Charity’s work supporting people in Cambridgeshire living with an advanced serious illness or other life-limiting condition and those who need end of life care.

A total of £1,104.94 was raised from the online donation page and from the two events. This sum is very welcome as it could cover the lighting and heating costs of one of our family apartments at the Hospice for three months or fund four 12-hour nursing shifts or fund our carers’ group for four months or cover the average cost of seven Hospice at Home visits. These are just a few examples of how the money raised will help make every moment count for our patients and their loved ones.

We are absolutely delighted to be partnered with Histon FC. Everyone at the club have been so welcoming and generous, and we are already looking forward to next season.
